Janet was our nurse yesterday, and we felt we ought to just go ahead and schedule it so that Morten had some time to heal before he comes home. Dr. Dollof from my OB office did the procedure in the isolation room of the nursery, and it took maybe 15 minutes. I wasn't allowed in (probably better that way), but they told me he didn't make a peep until they were all finished up. And when he came back to me, he was certainly not crying or showing any sign of pain.
He was a tough guy. He wore his car club onesie for it - a bit of "big boy" moral support:
Janet was thinking that he just might actually be able to come home for Christmas. Nothing positive yet, but he has made some significant progress on his feeding, so it might be possible. I like how Janet is with Morten - she's not afraid to push him to see what he can accomplish. Some of the other nurses would just do all his feedings by gavage (the gravity drop through the feeding tube), but Janet decided to try another bottle yesterday morning, and he did great - drank that all up just like the night before.
(don't ask me why this picture is sideways - Google sometimes has a mind of it's own)
And here was last night's feeding - he drank almost all of the bottle. There was a little left, but we'll give him some slack - it was a tough day...
Morten is up to 4 lbs 14.2 oz. I felt it was a pretty safe bet that he'll make 5 lbs by the time he comes home, so I went ahead and bought a carseat with the Christmas money from my parents. He got the brand new Graco Snugride 35 - so this seat should last him another 30 lbs!
