I guess Morten got a little cold in his big boy bed, so the nurses moved him into an isolette.
The isolette basically controls the temperature around the baby so that he can stay warm. It also has overhead bili lights (hence the bluish color in these pictures). When I came in yesterday morning and saw him in the isolette, I did get a little sad. While you can open the doors and put your hand on him, you can't do it for very long, and you can't just lean over and give him a kiss. But he still was able to come out for his feeding, so that at least gave me some contact time.
I took him over some little onesies that I bought. Once he is off the IV and out of the bili lights, he will be able to wear onesies and sleepers that open in the front. He is so little, though, that I had a hard time finding clothes that will fit him. Most of the "Preemie" sizes still look too big for him. The ones that I did find were from Carter - they seemed much more size appropriate.
In good news, his IV went back down from 5 ml to 2.5 ml, and his feeding went up from 33 ml to 39 ml. Right now, I'll have a hard time keeping up with 39 ml, so they may end up having to supplement with formula.
In other good news, Morten has been having bowel movements (how would think I would get excited about poo?!) The nurse said that it will help get the biliruben out of his system. When I went to change his diaper, he had one of those bowel movements - in fact, we had to get a 2nd clean diaper because every time I got him clean, he would go again!
I'll leave early this morning to go see him again. I'm crossing my fingers that the bili lights get to come off.
I would totally get excited about poo! What a great day it will be when you have him at home or of course some other place...a store, church, someone's house...and he does the best kind of poo-explosive up the back/throw away the onesie because there is no reason on this earth to wash it/ mustard-colored poo. I pray for you to have a day like that. Or better yet, one like I had when I took AJ home. We didn't have a changing table so I was changing him (now mind you, this was the day after I came home from the hospital after a c-section) and (oh, yeah, the gift I am sending you will also help in situations like this) I opened his diaper to a rainbow arched-pee that went past me to the closet door behind me. I doubled over laughing so hard yet in so much pain due to my incision. Austin came in to see what was going on and stepped in to help only to be showered upon by an explosive poo. I think I may have ruptured a few internal stitches with that one.
ReplyDeleteJust thought I would give you a glimpse of the glory you will one day experience...and may that day come as soon as possible!!!!!
Still love and prayers flowing your way!
