Pennies From Heaven

I was listening to this song the other day, and it just struck me that even though this situation with Morten in the hospital is difficult, I am so extemely thankful each day for all the little bitty progress that he makes.  So even though this pregnancy was far from ideal and the birth was not anything like I imagined, and sometimes I'd much rather stay in bed than hook myself up to that milking machine, Morten is my pennies from heaven.  If everything was easy and perfect, we would never appreciate how important the things we have are.

Morten passed his birth weight today - he's back to 4 lbs, 10 oz.

A long time ago
A million years BC
The best things in life
Were absolutely free.

But no one appreciated
A sky that was always blue.
And no one congratulated
A moon that was always new.

So it was planned that they would vanish now and then
And you must pay before you get them back again.
That's what storms were made for
And you shouldn't be afraid for

Every time it rains it rains
Pennies from heaven.
Don't you know each cloud contains
Pennies from heaven.
You'll find your fortune falling
All over town.
Be sure that your umbrella is upside down.
Trade them for a package of sunshine and flowers.
If you want the things you love
You must have showers.
So when you hear it thunder
Don't run under a tree.
There'll be pennies from heaven for you and me

  2. Actually, it was the Hot Club of Cowtown version. I was going to try and stream it in the blog entry, but it was taking too long to figure it out. I'm not sure I've heard the Billie Holiday one - I'll have to look it up!
