Homecoming

Morten came home with us on Monday the 21st of December.  We are so thrilled to have him home for Christmas - it's the best Christmas present we could have ever asked for!   We were nervous though, and were a little afraid to jinx ourselves - I had to resist the urge to call my parents and tell them while we were driving to the hospital for the fear that it wouldn't actually happen.

Here he is on our last day in the Special Care Nursery:

And here he is in his "going home" outfit - the little pants fit perfectly (for now!):

And here he is for the first time in his brand new car seat

The nurses have been so wonderful to us.  They have taught us so much.  We have gone home so much better equiped to handle this little baby - we're now experts at diapering, at taking his temperature, at understanding a lot of his signals, and we're pretty good at feeding him now.  They gave him a "graduation certificate" with his picture and his vitals - when we came in and I saw it, I got a little weepy just realizing that it was really going to happen!  He came home to us weighing 5 lbs 1.5 oz, and measuring about 19" long.

We were a little nervous about how the dogs would react to a new member of the household.  But they have been fantastic.  They are definitely a little curious, but they are both very gentle with Morten.  They almost want to kiss him to death, but they are good about pulling away when we ask them to.  Here they are hanging out with us in Morten's room for a changing.

And then Oscar decided everything was ok, so he went into his gaurding position.... or is that sleeping position?

It is so amazing to have him home.  Time is different now - there is definitely a stress that has been relieved with not having to drive to the hospital twice a day but we're still figuring out how to manage the feeding and pumping and sleeping schedule.  We can't be more thankful to have him with us though!  We know that so many of you have been praying for him, and I know those prayers have been heard and answered.  They are sincerely appreciated.  We are so very thankful for our loving family and friends.
