Feeding issues & Sit Down, Stand Up

First of all, I tried changing some things to make it easier to leave comments. I don't really know why some people could and others couldn't, but try commenting to let me know if it works! (that means you, mom!)

Morty has had a whole slew of doctors appointments the last few weeks. He developed some really big issues with eating after his adenoidectomy. Let's just say Jim and I have become expert at cleaning up puke. I think he had multiple issues (the surgery, his existing reflux, then we tried to pack him full of calories, which he didn't really do well with). Anyway, it was sort of a downward spiral, that I thought was going to end in a G-tube, but I now think we are finally coming out of. But that has caused us to have a lot of extra appointments lately. Today was a visit to the Feeding Team in the Ortolaryngology Dept, at Children's, which also houses the CEC (Communication Enhancement Center). I took Allison with us for this appointment, because I figure she does a lot of feeding him. They had some good ideas- basically she thought we were on the right track, and suggested that after the surgery, he may have developed some sensory issues with the way chunky food felt in his throat. Either he may not have really felt it prior to the surgery, due to the adenoids, so everything just kind of went down, with no feeling. Or perhaps his sore throat post surgery... Either way, it seems like he will have to re-learn how to handle different textures in his mouth.

Anyway... After the appointment, Morty and Allison were playing this little game. The PT says he is using his spasticity to go up, but that he is definitely using his muscle control to sit down. Have a look.
