Big Boy Bed
Tonight was Morty's first night in a "big boy" bed. I've asked around to see when other mommies have switched their kids out of the crib. It seems to vary from a year and a half to two and a half. Morty won't be climbing out of his crib, so we don't néed to move him for safety. But Morty sleeps best on his belly... And he's drool-y, so his sheets get messy fast. And I hate to admit, but they don't get changed nearly as often as they should. But changing sheets on a crib is a giant pain in the butt, so the big boy bed may be more for me than for Morty!
His bed is a little toddler bed that I made from Ana White's Farmhouse Toddler Bed plan. Then I also added some safety side rails using one of her bunk bed plans and modifying a bit. I cut and built it on Thursday afternoon, and sanded and stained it on Friday. I had some vacation time - that's the only way projects like this get done! It's a little hard to see the detail with this snapshot. But it was made with pine boards and stained a dark black-brown. Featured on his bed is the quilt Grandma Lund made him. I also found some car sheets at Target that match pretty well. We didn't know what size bed we were going to do - whether we would just use the old guest room full size bed, or get a toddler or twin bed, so the sheets are full size, and I'll have to cut them down to fit.
I'm also trying to make him a little wardrobe, since there's no closet in his room. Just something with a rod and some storage space. I've started something modified from this Ana White plan. We'll see if I can finish before Morty grows out of the toddler bed!

Great job on the bed! Will you make Lana one? :) Our plan is to give her Ryan's blue bear toddler bed when we get him a twin bed next month. By the way, Joe likes the Ana White surf board furniture you found when you were here. We just need to put together the plan of buying lumber and going to someone's house to use their saws & such!
