Michael's Run

Today we ran Michael's Run for the Respite Center.  (This is the place that Morty spends 1 day a week at daycare.)  Morty and I trained for several weeks to get ready for this.  For me, it was to work back up to a 3 mile distance.  More importantly, for Morty, it was to tolerate riding in the stroller for that distance.  We started out just jogging to the dog park (about 1/2 mile), getting out and playing while the dogs ran, and then jogging back.  Morty would pretty much fuss most of the way.  We built that up until we were jogging 3 miles without any breaks in between - and without any fussing!  (sounds a little like his eating breakfast in the Kid Kart! - build up from little bits)

Before the race, a guy from local access tv came by to ask us why we were running in 3 words.  I said, "to meet a goal".  Jim said "I love my son".  I guess neither of us can count to 3 - but I think we had good answers nonetheless!

Morty rode like a champ and finished his first 5K without any fussing!  Jim and I jogged it in just about 33 minutes - not too bad...  This was Jim's first road race too - and I might add, he did it without any training (wish I could do that!)

We also had the fantastic support of some of the moms from my mommy group - they jogged with us.  It was a great morning!
I found Morty rides better if he's all bundled up.

The finish!

This is what Morty looked like at the end of the race... a little disheveled, but sleeping happily.
