A few Updates

With Morty's CP diagnosis, we've been working on making a few changes.  It's sort of been a whirlwind of activity.  The first major change is that we're working to get Morty into the Michael Lisnow Respite Center daycare.  Our Early Intervention contact, Wendy, suggested we look into this, and arranged to have Morty and I go visit it last week.  The center was founded by a woman who's son, Michael, had CP, and they have a lot of physical therapists and occupational therapists working there, so Morty would get a full day of therapy - constant one-on-one care.  I was very impressed with the center and all the people I met while I was there.  I have to be honest that I had a little bit of a breakdown, seeing Morten do a little song activity with the group that was there - it just looked like he belonged - but I was also just overwhelmed with trying to figure out how everything would work.  They were all very nice and understanding with me at that moment.  So we filled out all the paperwork.  They can take him one day a week (they really only offer one day so that they can provide opportunities to as many children as they can).

The other change is that I am working to change my work hours to an alternative work schedule.  My proposal was to do 4 nine hour days and one half day per week.  That should give me the half day to do any Early Intervention or other therapy sessions or doctor visits we need.  That's still going through approvals, but I think that should work out.

Another change is that we have started to get connected with the Perkins School for the blind.  They have a program for visually impaired infants where they will help determine Morty's "functional vision" and do home visits similar to Early Intervention to help teach us things we can do to help him.

I wrote a while back about the family fast that we had for Morty.  Well, I want to thank everyone who fasted or prayed or kept Morty in their thoughts.  I have felt that there has been a definite improvement in his development in the last few weeks.  He has been much more responsive and smiley and giggly.  He is tracking our faces better.  Other people have noticed this change too - EI, Andrew at the daycare, Dr. Bhatt...

I tried to capture a couple of videos of Morty smiling - it's a little tough to catch him at the right time and capture it all with the camera...  but here's a couple that I did get:

And one with my mug in it too - apologies for the silly "A-Boo" and "A-Goo" noises... those are his favorite words.

  1. Great videos! He's so cute! I can totally understand the difficulty and anxiety about checking out specialized daycares that provide therapies. Although it was difficult at the beginning, moving Ryan to his current daycare has been the best decision! He's made so much progress this year that the teacher's at Lana's daycare can see a difference (he goes there when his school is on vacation). Good luck with all your schedule changes!
