I told my home teacher, Mike Dowling, that I was looking for Christmas activities to fill Morty's time while Jim was travelling, and he told me about the Wellesley town tree lighting. So we headed over to that event also. Wellesley is like Natick's rich uncle, but I have to say that I think the Natick ceremony was much better. Natick's was packed with townspeople and families. They had holiday music broadcast over the speakers, kids decorating ornaments, a Santa for pictures, and a generally well-organized event. Wellesley had a nice big high school choral group singing carols - which was really great and put us in the holiday mood, but the lighting of the trees was relatively unexciting. It was difficult to hear what was going on and there weren't very many people there. But it still made for some good picture attempts... I've been trying to learn how to take these holiday lights pictures...
The other interesting thing about this evening was that one of the local shops had a very large model train set up in their window. We checked it out for a while. I'm not sure how much of it Morty actually was able to see, but we talked about all of the little scenes set up and noted each time the trains passed by our part of the window. Here he is checking it out:
